Lögberg - Parliamentary Iceland (Law Rock) (II)


Lögberg or Law Rock is situated on the northern shore of Lake Þingvallavatn, Þingvellir and is the national shrine of Iceland. It is a key location in Icelandic history and the place the country's Alþingi parliament. The Alþingi parliament was first assembled in 930 CE and is the oldest surviving parliament in the world. The Lögberg was the place on which the Lawspeaker (lögsögumaður) took his seat as the presiding official of the assembly of the Althing. For this reason, Þingvellir National Park was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004 and is a popular tourist site.
