Monumento a Cristóbal Rojas
This monument to the painter Cristóbal Rojas (1858 - 1890) is at the front of the Cristóbal Rojas School of Plastic Arts, founded in 1959 at Barinas, the capital of the Barinas State in the western plains of Venezuela. The commemorative artwork consists of a concrete pedestal and a bronze bust sculpted by Henry Alizo in the 1980s. The entire monument reaches 3 meters high, while the sculpture is 80 cm high, 50 cm wide (shoulders) and has a depth of 27 cm. This bronze piece paid homage to Rojas at the most important art school of Barinas State. Cristobal Rojas is one of the most important Venezuelan painters of the 19th century, whose fame is that of Arturo Michelena, Martín Tovar y Tovar, and Antonio Herrera Toro.
